Our Program
We are a high school club sport. We operate under the rules and regulations of USA Ultimate and play in the TUSC365 high school division. To learn about the basics and rules of how the game of Ultimate is played, check out Discover Ultimate and 10 Simple Rules at USA Ultimate. To learn more about Ultimate, visit Ultimate Frisbee HQ.
Tryouts and Teams
No tryouts required! Students of all skill levels who are interested in learning about and joining Austin High Ultimate can come to any of our Fall semester preseason practices that are led by our team captains.
Our coaching team will lead skill development opportunities, on-field training and drills, knowledge of the rules of the game, and much more to develop a strong understanding of the sport and to ready the players for competitive play. Official team rosters will be determined and organized by the coaching team and team captains in the Spring. Teams are co-ed and typically have rosters of 12-18 players. If there is enough interest, we will have an A and B team.
Any Austin High student is welcome to join the team, as well as high school students throughout the Austin community who might not have access to Ultimate Frisbee at their schools. Our team has has welcomed students from Griffin, St. Stephen's, Headwaters, and more!
Practices
Practice is an invaluable opportunity for players to hone in on developing and strengthening their skills, to create comaraderie as a unified team, and to demonstrate all-in readiness for competing against the top ranked teams in the high school division.
*Cleats and water bottles are required at every practice. A white jersey/tshirt and a dark jerseys/tshirt are required at every practice. This is essential for offense/defense drills, scrimmages, etc.
Practices are generally held Tuesdays and Thursdays after school plus Saturday mornings. Captain-led practices begin in the Fall semester, while more-structured coach-led practices begin in the Spring. Location and times will be communicated by captains and coaches.
Our Season
The official Ultimate season typically begins after Spring Break for approximately six weeks. Austin High plays in TUSC's Spring League against other schools in the area. There are typically two games on each Saturday during Spring League.
Following the completion of Spring League, Austin High competes in the State Tournament over a weekend in May. Players can expect to play 3 games on both Saturday and Sunday. We cap off the season with our End-of-Year Banquet and Awards Presentation.
Cost to Play
Players can join preseason practices and try the sport before committing to any costs. Cost should never be a barrier to participate! Scholarships are available.

Uniforms

For safety reasons, all players need cleats. Lacrosse or football wide-receiver cleats are highly recommended, as they are lightweight, durable and offer necessary traction for pivoting and demanding maneuvers. Soccer cleats also work well. Make sure the cleats do not have metal spikes.
Additionally, players are encouraged to have a disc of their own. The standard disc used in play is the Discraft Ultrastar. They are fairly inexpensive and can be purchased here.
